The Ecosphere contains the same essential elements that are found here on Earth. It is an identical model of a balanced ecosystem where all inhabitants provide for each other to sustain a living environment. The gravel represents the Earth itself, the water is two thirds of it all, the air fills the balance in the rest of the tank, with light acting in place of fire. The final component is made up of algae, shrimp and microbes which act as life on the Earth.

Still exhibiting at the Tate Modern until the 27th May the Roy Lichtenstein retrospective, which brings together 125 of his most definitive paintings and sculptures, realises his enduring legacy in art, advertising and contemporary visual culture. With pop art motifs seen infiltrating the runways and seasonal collections, most notably at Phillip Lim, Markus Lupfer and Christian Dior, there appears to be a dot, thought bubble and teary blonde on every jumper, clutch and tee in town.

Alexandra Bruel, the Gobelin’s school educated Parisian illustrator and art director, was commissioned by British Vogue in December 2012 to create a pop art inspired jewellery set design. Using her skills as an animator, illustrator and sculptor, the models are created from painted plasticine, and evoke perfectly the child like, fun quality of the pop art zeitgeist.

Our Jewellery is lowered into the “gold bath” on a copper wire. The silver pieces are charged and once submerged, free floating atomically charged particles of gold are attracted to the silver surfaces, coating them evenly and finely in a perfect layer of gold. As the copper wire is lifted from the foaming dark water, brilliant yellow gold shapes miraculously emerge….

Bringing you in two parts an exclusive look behind the scenes at the fascinating process of fine gold plating hidden in the upper echelons of Hatton Garden’s Goldsmith Centre, we spent the afternoon at our gold platers, Eliot Fitzpatrick, and saw just how the craftsmanship of master platers and polishers Al and Reg deftly turned our pale silver into smooth bright gold. Heart FM blazing over humming machines the room is a noise, fume filled production line, run with the casual ease of two craftsmen with over 30 years experience.

Able to gild, colour gild, rhodium plate, black gold plate and silver plate, Eliot Fitzpatrick has gained a reputation as one of the finest silversmiths and platers in the country, with a client base including royal families around the world, so we feel fortunate leaving our silver in their hands. Next time see our Epoch 4 jewellery plated with a fine deposit of electromagnetically charged gold particles in the fascinating gold bath.

Northern Irish artist Mary McIntyre shows us how forgotten places can be transformed into disquieting scenes of beauty and drama. Her natural spectres are often archetypal meditations on the sublime, yet these picturesque images are often also interrupted vistas, as there appears in each scene something of the manmade and human. Utilising natural phenomena such a mist and fog to create picturesque environments, she explores how these passing lights can alter a space momentarily from the pedestrian to the eerie and extraordinary.

Smattered across the AW13 runways, including Jil Sander, Haider Ackermann, and Peter Pilotto, cobalt blue has a vivid luminescence. Long rooted in Chinese art and the arching heavenly skies of the Renaissance, Cobalt in its raw form is ground laboriously into oil to form exquisite pigments. Affording Pablo Picasso his distinctive artistic Blue Period, the colour continues to enthral and inspire.

Embodying his singular and unique iconography, these one off jewels were designed by Salvador Dali from 1941, and made in New York (under his scrutiny) by the infamous Argentinian silversmiths at the Carlos Academy. The collection has since passed through the hands of numerous international millionaires, museums and foundations, and after three obscure japanese residences, is now finally owned by the Gala-Salvador Dali Foundation.
